Memorial Day

Memorial Day
Originally uploaded by Oogie McGuire
I wanted to get a picture of the bridge on the main road into town. They line the bridge with flags, donated by families of service men and women from our area. Unfortunately farm work kept us up on the hill today so I had to find my own flag.

It's Memorial Day in the U.S. Make a photo that symbolizes today and what it means to you.

Royal Purple

Royal Purple
Originally uploaded by Oogie McGuire
It got to the end of the day and I hadn't seen anything purple. Then I remembered I had a purple t-shirt. Purple was the color of royalty because it was so rare and hard to get. What a change now that anyone can own a simple purple shirt.

Today's color is purple. Maybe you'll find it on a fruit. Maybe a flower. Or, maybe a sign. Make a photo and post it.

Fire Suppression

Fire Suppression
Originally uploaded by Oogie McGuire
We are miles away from the nearest fire hydrant. Our pond serves as our backup fire suppression and water source. It was used in the big Wake Fire in 1994 as a point for the water bomber helicopters to get water to fight the fire.

Fire hydrants come in many colors and forms. Make a dramatic portrait of your local fire hydrant.

Shepherds' Crook & Electric Netting

One old, one new. These are 2 tools I use almost daily once we start grazing the sheep. The crook can direct sheep, be a gate, catch sheep and be a staff, leaning pole and walking stick. The netting allows us to do managed intensive grazing on our property and allows us to raise sheep without any grain inputs at all. Both are required to be a farmer the way we do it.

What tools do you use and appreciate on a daily basis? Make an interesting photo of one such tool today.
